A Saturday with no plan: Part 1

Today was a wonderfully, spontaneous, beautiful day! I woke up and the sun was shining through my window and I was thinking about what a perfect day it was going to be. Just as I was about to crawl out of bed the phone rang.

Me: Hello.
Dave: Hey babe.
Me: Hey, what's up.
Dave: Just getting up, what are you doing?
Me: Just getting up.
Dave: Well let's go for a ride.
Me: Ok, I'll get ready and meet you at your house.
Dave: Ok, bye.
Me: Ok, bye.

So I got up, changed Rex's (the snake) water, and played with him for a little bit. Then I showered and got all ready. I was just about to walk out the door and realized Dave had tried to call. I called him back.

Dave: Hello.
Me: Did you try to call me?
Dave: Yeah, how long til you're ready?
Me: I was just getting ready to walk out the door.
Dave: Ok, guess what they have at the Harley Dealership.
Me: (Thinking to myself...motorcycles.) Umm, it's Saturday, hot dogs?
Dave: Well besides that?
Me: UMM
Dave: AN 09 STREETGLIDE!!!
Me: Cool, I'll be right over.

I start thinking on the way over to Dave's that this could be a very bad day for one, or both of us. So I know that I need to have a talk with him before we go. As soon as I walk in the door, I grab him by the hand.

Me: Hon, we really need to talk before we go.
Dave: (looking very concerned) About what?
Me: Ok, remember when you first thought about buying your Streetglide? Remember I told you that if you bought that before you bought me a ring that I would leave you? Remember how when I realized how much you wanted it, and how happy it would make you, and how good of a deal they were going to give you, remember how I said to get it, and I would still be around, and I wouldn't ever hold it against you, and I would still love you?
Dave: Yeah.
Me: Well, I meant all of it, and I still do. But I am telling you right now, in no uncertain terms, that if you go down and buy that '09 before I get my bike...I'm outta here.
Dave: Seriously?
Me: Oh yes, seriously.
Dave: Well I'm not really going to buy it, I just want to see it.

Yeah, that's what he said until we got down to the dealership. Then he was all over that thing like college rugby players on a stripper. He was seriously laying on the ground with his arms wrapped all over her, talking about her beautiful frame. I have to be honest I was starting to feel a little inadequate. All the pictures are on Dave's camera, but if you check his post I'm sure he'll have them up soon.

So, after Dave stopped drooling, we hung out and had our hot dogs and conversed with Bernie (he's the culprit who called to tell Dave about the new bitch down at the dealership) and Chuck and Amanda. None of us had any real plans, other than to get out and ride. Bernie asked if we wanted to ride over to Moss Landing to the Army surplus store. Dave and I were up for just about anything so we said sure. Chuck and Amanda were in, and so were two other couples who were friends of theirs. Amanda is a fairly new rider, and had never ridden on the freeway. To go to Moss Landing you don't have to go on the freeway, but you do have to go on Highway 1, which is a two lane highway, and usually pretty busy. She was nervous, but we all encouraged her, and Chuck told her there was no better time than when she was with a group of friends who would all watch out for her. And Dave added that at least there would be enough people to help pick the bike up. Thanks Dave! All the boys promised to be on their best riding behavior, and Amanda decided now was a good time to expand her circle. Amanda rode near the back with Dave and I behind her. I have to say that I was really impressed with the way she handled her Road King. She is a little taller than me, but even with that, I don't think I could handle that big of a bike for a first bike. She did well, and felt an amazing sense of acomplishment by doing it.

As we were rolling through Castroville, we saw Cowboy sitting on his bike on the side of the road (we always seem to find him sitting on the side of the road. Hmmm.) We waved and he started up and joined us at the rear of the pack.

When we got to Moss Landing one of the couples took off on their own. Apparantely Lori's birthday was yesterday and Stan forgot. UH OH! So he was going to take her to do something to try and make up for it. We just hung out, checked out the cool stuff in the Surplus store, and basically just bummed around. Cowboy left and then shortly after, another couple left. So it was down to me and Dave, Chuck and Amanda, and Bernie.

With no exact plans, what in the world could we do now?

Stay tuned for part 2.

Great post! I have a few comments, though:

1. How do you play with a snake? And I mean your snake, Rex. :)

2. Best line: "Me: (Thinking to myself...motorcycles.)..."

3. What is it you want? A ring or your own bike, BB?

4. Second best line: "Then he was all over that thing like college rugby players on a stripper."

5. How the hell could Stan forget Lori's birthday??? Hello?! WTF?

I can't wait for part 2!!! :)

Ann-
1. I had a feeling someone was going to ask me that. I actually just hold him and pretty much let him do and go wherever he wants. Except my hair, he tends to get all caught up in it.

2. It was my first thought.

3. I got my ring, kindof...it's complicated. Now I want my own bike. I figure it's fair, he already has one, even if the frame sucks! LOL.

4. Thanks. :)

5. No clue! And they're newlyweds, so he's not off to a great start!

Oh boy this sounds as if it could get ugly. Do I really want to read the rest of the story Uncle Paul?

I'm dying to hear part 2, and to see those pics of Dave making love to the '09 frame (tell him to hurry up and get them posted)!

I am in 100% agreement with Ann's comments, except #3. A Harley is a stronger bond than a ring any day! (Not that I have any intentions of giving up my ring, even after he gets me my Harley)!!!

Not finishing the story is cruel and unusual punishment? How will I sleep. I can see it now... I'll be tossing and turning all night? It's like watching one of those old Batman episodes where Batman and Robin are about to be killed and they make you stay tuned for the next episode to see if the Dynamic Duo get out of this mess. I truly hope our favorite West Coast Dynamic Duo make it through this dramatic episode unscathed!

Ronman- No it doesn't get ugly. You'll be able to keep reading. :)

Mrs. RC- Yeah, I told him to hurry up with the pictures, but he's kinda on Dave time right now. You'll love the pictures though, he is a nut!

R.C.- Wow so dramatic. I hope you aren't disapointed when you do read part 2. I wasn't trying to be suspensful or build ya'll up, it's just my post was way too long. So hopefully you will be able to get at least a little bit of sleep, part 2 should be up tomorrow....or will it? Waaahaaahaaahaahaa!

Ohh......Now who's the cliffhanging storyteller?

you guys/gals and you cliff hangers... Your killing me.

What?! Are you kidding me?! Give up the rest of the story!

BTW ladies...
Ultimatums are never a good idea. You might not like what he picks!

Dean- It wasn't so much an ultimatum, as a mutually agreed upon goal that was being adjusted. We have a very complex relationship, but when it comes to it, we are a team working towards attaining goals that we have decided on together. :)

Big D & Mr. M- I really didn't intend it to be a cliffhanger, really. I just thought it was too long so I broke it into two parts. Shoot, now you guys are going to be expecting some juicy story, and it really isn't. I better start making some crap up. LOL.

"a mutually agreed upon goal that was being adjusted"

hmmm...
That's an interesting way of putting it.

Hmmmmm. Complexity in male/female relationships. Harleys vs. Rings. Forgetting birthdays (ouch -even me with all my antics and I've never done that!). Sexual innuendo as an analogy. Sounds familiar.

All of a sudden I have an urge to take a ride to Providence...
