A Sunset With My Son

Last week was an exceptionally crappy one for me. I won't go into the details, because they don't matter, but I knew it was affecting those around me when my son asked me one day if I was having another bad day....shhhh....can you hear it? That was the sound of my heart breaking.
On Thursday I decided enough was enough and rushed to pick Riley up after I got off work. We jumped in the car and I started to drive. Riley kept asking where we were going and I told him to just relax and he would find out soon enough.
I drove us about 20 miles to Moss Landing to the beach just as the sun was about to set. We watched the Sea Lions as they swam and played only a few feet from the shore. We sat on a log and watched the sunset while we had a nice conversation and I apologized for being "grumpy mom". Riley gave me a big hug and told me that I was a great mom. I sat there thinking about how truly blessed I am, and how no matter what happens I need to remember my blessings and live my life so that others, especially my son, can see those blessings as well.
I hadn't really considered posting about this until I read the post "2 CUPS OF COFFEE" over at Mr. Motorcycle's blog. It really touched me and made me feel like sharing.
My advice to anyone having a bad day....spend a few minutes with someone you love, there really is no better cure.

Your boy is lucky to have you! He's a good kid because you are a good mom.

It's simple moments like sharing a sunset with someone you love, or just sitting together quietly that's priceless! We all have rough times, and at least you noticed ( with the help of Riley) the need to decompress. Treasure what you have, he sounds like a remarkable person.

And your right... thanks to mr. m. for reminding us of the important things in life.

Riley's a lucky boy. Sometimes it's the little things that are SO big.

I think we all need that reminder every once in a while.

Hmm...Guess that age old saying about stopping to smell the roses was right.

Glad you were able to spend some time with him. It's times like that he'll remember for years to come.

Mastercheif- Thanks! He is a good kid, but I don't know that I can take all the credit.

Lady R.- These are the moments we need to treasure, but it's sad that sometimes it's easier to remember the bad stuff.

Ann- Thank you. It's so easy to get carried away with the big stuff.

Dean- Spending time with my son is my greatest joy, I hope when he remembers these times he can feel that.

Wow! Jerk an old biker will ya. That is sooo good you did that with you baby boy. We all need that. We do need to remember to do that and when someone has done that for us. So lets have a cup of coffee. Or in Riley's case a cup of coco.

Sharing the sunset will the memory you will survive always,
What ever trails and tribulations you have today will barely be remembered six months from now,
Lucky for you ,,,You are able to see it. and live in the moment.

Kids are the reason to carry on. Little things are remembered long after the big things are forgotten! Keep it up.

Webster- We should all do it more often.

Mr. M.- No, thank you!

Big D.- Thanks, that's so true.

Harley Rider- Exactly!

Every time I spend a day being a grump I realize after my wife is beyond weary how not worth it bad attitudes are because at the end of it we never know what to do except try and fix the damage. You showed us how to do that. Great post.
